This page is dedicated to those who portray what Default CrossFit is all about. It is someone who pushes hard, never gives up, and wants to accomplish something each time they set foot in the box. They may not be the first one to finish, but they always try their best. That is why we have chosen Joy Kish for the Athlete Spotlight in the month of October!

Full disclosure: Joy is a dear friend of mine so you *may* be getting a biased viewpoint ; )
Joy has always been into working out. She actually met her husband at the gym over 20 years ago. So she started CrossFit already in pretty good physical shape.  She has shoulders and biceps to die for, and her ability to do strict pull ups and handstand push ups is a thing of envy around Default. But beyond her physical capabilities, Joy is one one of the kindest, most thoughtful and supportive people you will ever meet. She is comes to Default to get her workouts, but she is a good friend, a shoulder to lean on, and a cheerleader to all who walk in the door. I am so grateful that she chooses to come to Default and spread her “Joy” to us all. Love you, friend!

Name: Joy Kish

What do you do for a living? Well I’ve done a few different things: I originally was a teacher. When my son started kindergarten I went back to teaching but in a substitute role. I’m currently working for Equity Title as one of their Inland Empire representatives.

How long have you been a member of Default CrossFit? 2.5 maybe 3 years

Did you work out prior to joining Default CrossFit? If so, where? Yes CF Inland Valley (CFIV). Before that I lifted weights with my husband and his friends.

What made you try CrossFit? I heard about CF through my friend and neighbor, Danielle Heider, who had been doing CF for a couple years. Once we moved to Murrieta there were a few close boxes, which now made it convenient for me to give it a try.

What are your proudest CrossFit achievements? My one Muscle up

What is your favorite lift? I like cleans and push jerks.

What movements do you dislike the most? Deadlifts but only because my back. Movements I truly dislike are the hang clean or hang snatch.

What’s one movement that you have to scale that you would like to rx? Bar muscle ups & getting my ring muscle up back.

What’s your favorite food? Steak

What was the last movie that you saw? Guardians of the galaxy vol. 2

What do you like to do in your spare time? I like to hike. Being outside makes me happy.

If you could go anywhere in the world for vacation where would it be? Australia

What did you do growing up that got you into trouble? Nothing~Seriously I was good! Well there was this one time that I thought I was going to jail. I was the only one sober enough to drive us home from an evening in Tijuana. I was pulled over for driving too slow. The officer had me walk the line, touch my nose, follow his finger with my eyes etc. all while my friends were passed out in the back seat. I was shaking and was sure I’d spend the night in a cold jail cell. I passed the officer’s test and went on my way, only to have a giant Owl hit my windshield a few miles down the road. It was quite the night. But I didn’t get in trouble. It’s one of those really funny stories that only become funny when looking back on 😉
